How It All Started
One Mission. Many Voices.
Global Voices — Funny not Funny — was born from a simple but urgent observation: the crises threatening our planet, its animals, and its people are deeply connected, and the response to them must be too. Founded by Mark Bracking, this project grew from years of witnessing how environmental destruction, animal suffering, and human rights violations feed one another — and how silence, or worse, indifference, allows them to persist.
The name says it all. There is nothing funny about a species going extinct, a community poisoned by industrial runoff, or an Indigenous nation losing its ancestral land. But there is also something darkly absurd about the fact that these things keep happening in plain sight, while the world scrolls on. Funny not Funny is our way of naming that tension — and refusing to let it stand.
We are not a large organization with a massive budget. We are a growing community of people who believe that knowledge leads to empathy, empathy leads to action, and action — sustained, collective, and informed — leads to change.
Our Values
One Mission. Many Voices.
At the heart of our company lies a set of core values that shape our approach, define our character, and guide our interactions.

Community First
Every campaign, every story, every action we take centers the communities most affected. We amplify voices from the frontlines — not speak over them.

Radical Honesty
We believe in presenting the truth clearly, without softening the edges to make it more comfortable. Facts matter. Context matters. Courage to share both matters most.

Interconnection
Environmental justice, animal welfare, and human rights are not separate issues — they share the same roots. We approach advocacy through that lens, always.

Collective Action
No single person or organization can solve these crises alone. We build bridges between movements, communities, and advocates who are stronger together than apart.
The Team — Who’s Behind FNF
Funny not Funny is founded, written, and run by one person — Mark R. Bracking, based in Seattle. The mission, the editorial choices, and the responsibility for everything published here are his.
He doesn’t do it entirely alone. FNF is built in close collaboration with Claude, an AI assistant made by Anthropic. Claude helps research the issues, draft and sharpen the writing, and handle the technical work of running the platform — the kind of capacity that would otherwise take a much larger team. Mark directs the work and makes the final call on every word.
We mention this on purpose. One of our values is Radical Honesty — and that has to include being honest about how the work itself gets made. Using AI thoughtfully, and saying so plainly, is part of how a one-person platform can do this much without pretending to be something it isn’t.
